Revising the state’s security condition for the months of February, March and April, Gov. Obaseki said Edo noted 1 drug abuse cases in February, 34 cases in March and 23 cases in April.

“Drug abuse is currently number two problem of anxiety in our state.

“Our investigation displays that there is high rate of ingesting of drugs in the last few months.


“This is not unrelated with the which has reserved many students at home and lazy,’’ the governor said.

The appraisal came after a joint security meeting in between the state government and representatives of numerous security agencies in the state.

“I use the chance of this meeting to appeal to ASUU and the Federal Government to do all they can to call off this strike as soon as possible.

“This is in the attention of the children so that we do not retain them at home and extinguishing their lives.

“If they are not going to school, as you know the lazy mind is a devil’s workshop. One way we hope that we can reduce the use of drugs is if we take these children back to school.

“Another problem is the accident rate. We have detected minor reduction because of the rains.

“We use this opportunity to additional appeal to the Federal Government that the major roads that is leading into Edo has be reconstructed, particularly the Benin-Auchi, Okpekpe-Okene roads,’’ he said.

Obaseki renowned that road accidents explanation for a large number of deaths logged in the state.

He stressed that the state had enjoyed a comparative decline in other incidents, which appear that Edo is becoming harmless.

In his explanations, Commissioner of Police in Edo, Mr Abutu Yaro, verified the views of the governor on crime decrease, saying that Edo is safer now than earlier.
